Redundant

Well after being in employment for 48 years was made redundant last Thursday.  No warnings, no nothing.  Factory closed with loss of 350 jobs.  Not paid for the month worked.  What a shambles.  Now have to claim off Government for redundancy and monies owed.  Walked into town for a paper and decided to call in council offices to see if I could get anything off council tax.  ZILCH

Spent 1.5 hours on phone to dole office and have an appointment for this Thursday.  Looking forward to that. NOT.

Searched online and seems because I have savings above £16000 wont get Zilch.

After 48 years ZILCH

Am I pissed off.  You bet

Sorry to here fella, I hope you get sorted asap, but as snuff said, if you were just arriving from Poland you'd be sorted by now with a pin number and directions to a cash point .. good luck

I wasn't going to comment on this as nothing anyone can say is going to make it any better. I hope you get sorted asap mate. Must be tough to get your head round initially after working in one place so long...as well as money/wages/redundancy worries.

To all those who have made an anti EU political point out of this shame on you all get a grip FFS !! The man has come on here to share his bad news and all you lot can do is turn it into an anti eu immigrant point scoring exercise. There is a time and place for lies and BS and this thread isn't either IMHO.

Your quite right, i was being a smart arse and getting a cheap shot at the stay camp pointing out how well the EU actually protects workers rights, it was very rude of me so my apologies to suke for using his/her mis fortune to have a dig at the pro EU team.

Really sorry suke, Diddy is correct and it was cheap of me to use this as a dig at the EU. :(

Thanks guys for the comments. Its not so bad for me at 63 and a half. But my thoughts are with some of the younger employees who don't have much savings and are struggling to get by. There where quite a few couples who were employed and they have lost both incomes. Has been softened a bit today as the redundancy payments and loss of earnings are now starting to come through to people, including mine, and I was quite surprised at the amount seeing as its coming from the government. A closed facebook site was made by one of the employees and there is quite a lot of help being shared out on there. Quite a few people have managed to get jobs so there is hope for them out there.

Not quite done yet Goldringers.  Don't feel as if I am quite ready for scrap heap yet.  Don't see myself watching JK every morning.  Something part time would be ideal.  Give me chance to wind down steady.

63! you might want to start cutting lawns or cleaning windows, it won't be long before you start meeting old lady's at the bingo hall that will need their odd jobs done :P

On a serious note, I hope it all works out for you ok fella.
