suke
Thinking of putting artificial grass down. Area is approx. 7m x 6m. Has anyone done this? Did you do it yourself or have a firm do it?

Had it installed by these people. Lawnland Took them a day and a half to do. They were top notch.

daz2905
Me and the other half were talking about this a couple of weeks ago. Our back garden gets waterlogged during the winter and then when spring comes it's got really bad moss patches. Then by the time i've treated it and killed the moss the summers here and it grows so much it needs cutting about every 5 days. The price that is quoted on the website, does that include laying the stuff? I'm also assuming that because of my drainage problems i would need to have hardcore and sand put down first. I don't live near Manchester so would need a local company. Problem is finding someone to do the job at a sensible price and to do it right. I would estimate i need about 80 square metres of the stuff that's why i'm wondering about the price. Around two and half grand is doable if it includes fitting. i'm sick of the time i spend on that garden and after all my efforts it probably looks good for about 1 month a year, not a good return in terms of effort and the £100 plus i'm spending on lawn treatments. Please don't mention getting greenthumb in either, i don't think that guy wants to see me again any more than i want to see him.

They put all the tanalised sleepers together with the remote control leds. I will try to dig out the prep photos. They took quite a bit of soil out to prep the land for the grass. I think its roughly £50 per sq metre, fitted. I didnt touch jack for that. New fence panels have also gone in as well.
hoponbaby
That looks good, would like to have ours done but at £50 psm would be costing circa £8k so for that the mrs can carry on cutting it!
georgedawes
It was costing us £20 a fortnight for the grass to be cut. So for me it pays for itself. I haven't got green finger or I'm just a lazy BA***RD!! All I can say is, ring them for a quote. Keith is the person, if in the North West/Cheshire area will come and give you a quote. They have done fittings in Isle Of Man and the south coast of England. So, they are prepared to travel and they also have approved fitters around UK. daz2905
Does look really nice mate, transformed your garden. I'm in agreement with you, i too am a lazy so and so and think the time it will save me will make it worth while. I only take Sundays off work and hate it when i have to spend time cutting grass. Because of the price i think i'll only be looking at getting the back yard done. The front is south facing and very dry, so doesn't grow anything like as fast as the back and probably is about 20 percent bigger than the back. There's a company near me who have done the big brother house and a ton of other projects so i think i'll call them and get a price. They offer a long guarantee and don't use cheap imported stuff. They do mention needing drainage if it gets waterlogged so i'm expecting that to send my quote skywards.
suke
Went here last Saturday and had a look at some samples. hxxp://www.artificialgrassforless.co.uk/acatalog/contact-us.html. We have chosen the Hollinwell as its nice and thick and has flecks of brown in it resembling real grass. I am going to do this myself. Existing lawn is approx. 6m x 7m. The ground is clay soil on top of solid sandstone so does get very waterlogged so first thing is to get the old turf dug up and install drainage. Have hired a turf cutter for the coming weekend(£40.00) from local hire shop and just hope the weather is going to be kind to us. Will post some pics as we go. hoponbaby
Titchmarsh always seemed to make those turf cutters look so easy, had one to remove lawn at our old house and it was an absolute ball ache. Whether it was just too uneven or just shite from HSS who knows....
suke
Finally finished the new lawn. Used the turf cutter and i must say it made the job a lot easier. I added some land drainage as well as my soil is very much clay and tended to be very boggy when wet. There is a join just to the left of the clothes pole and i tried very hard to disguise this but it is still noticeable. But i am very pleased with the new lawn and at least i can use it at any time now. Tried to add some pics but they have not turned up!! I use tinypic.com. I'd like to see the pics of what you've done, especially pics of how you've done the drainage if you have any.
