Datacave again

If the last couple of weeks have taught me anything it's that we were stuck in rut there. I logged in most days but with the exception of mik25 breathing new life into the place for a while, it was slowly dying. There were very few interesting posts and the daily mail links and terrorist deniers were not helping at all. I rarely posted because there seemed little to say, but i logged in still the same.It was just a routine for me and once in while i learnt something interesting or read a post that inspired to learn something i'd never thought of before.

I was still gutted when it closed and was half expecting our community to slowly fall apart. Then this place came along and it just seems to buzzing and shows that we desperately needed a fresh start. I saw last night that H had announced that he had miracuosly fixed the database and was bringing modshack back. Problem is that modshack was more than a name and nostalgia aside, it died when we lost the cable section and it would be best to stay that way.

We need to look to the future and the future is right here. The database from the cave is old and outdated and we are better off starting from scratch with more relevance to today rather than a decade plus ago.

H was saying just before closure that he had little interest in the forum and now it's gone he wants it back. I'd love to see him as a member here and playing a part but i doubt we'll see that.

I hope the members we have here stay, if we split we just end up with 2 dead forums.

With that i climb down off my soapbox :)

This is all getting a bit sad. Fon has already explained his thoughts and feelings over the way things ended on DC. Im happy enough here and will try to get involved with a hopeful resurgence of a forum of any bloody type lol. I want it to be techy but im happy to be involved with the matched betting ect as that is stuff I have done and know a bit about. I also like the fact that it seems there may end  up being a coding section here...As already said Im well up for learning along with the class.

I think my thoughts are none of us wanted the shack/cave to die. We were given a week which turned into barely a day to sort out a new home, with nothing other than cryptic hints about another forum coming soon ect. we struggled for years in DC but nobody including me took any interest - I am a member of say 4 or 5 forums like this one......I would love to see this place become the "busy" forum ecause to be honest none of my other haunts are doing as well as yesteryear. We can and will co-exist with the other forums but the last thing we need is to split an already small community any further. I would love to hear the other sides views lol.

It is sad and i've posted on there stating my feelings on it.

Here is what i wrote.

K i'm not going to get into an argument or war about it but i have to get this off my chest and should i be banned then so be it.

Rant on.

All Bullshit this tbh H.

Years i and others gave to this place and you closed the doors without any real warning or any real info other than shack was dead, was not coming back, you gave a wonderful speech in your thread about how great it was and how you were moving on to new pastures, couldn't have done it without Fon etc etc......You know this thread

......only to reopen once Fon had opened the other place and low and behold shocked.... the database which had "flat lined" never to be revived suddenly revives itself and all is once again good with the world because H deems it to be.....i call BS and the reason IMHO you've reopened this shack is because for whatever reason you don't like the fact Fon had opened another site.......hence the BS footnote dig about "tribute acts" and what not.

You will always be respected by me for what you've given over the years and tbh you probably wont give two shits if i never post here again.... but just remember it was YOU who created the divide in the shack and its members, you and no one else with all this childish BS.

H took his ball home and fucked us all off, we all had to get on with it so got a new ball, H didn't like it so brought his ball back out to play. Say what you want but sorry thats how it all reads tbh.

Rant off.

Sorry but thats how i feel about the whole thing tbh mate, take it how you want.

Lets be honest here......

I've changed my username a couple of times since being a mod on THOiC, ModShack and Datacave, I've always respected H and will not get into any flaming wars with or about him, what he has done seems a little out of the ordinary admittedly but then I've never been a close friend so have no idea why he has done it, perhaps he has his reasons which of course is no excuse on how he treated most members/mods/admin from DC. Who knows if he thought there was nothing left in DC and decided to call it a day and as soon as he saw the fantastic reaction that's happened here then realized he had made a big mistake.

My personal feelings are let him do his thing and carry on doing what's going on here, there is enough space in the digital universe for 2 similar forums, this place can be huge so let it flourish with positively rather than negativity, if admin and mods are full of energy like here then it will pass onto the members and new members that signup.

Modshack was the first forum I spent ALOT of time posting on. The recent chain of events brought me to this place believing the old place had gone for good. Now I am here, I like the place, plenty of familiar faces and people actually posting. Some good promotions which have given us some active mods, something DC needed.

So what happened? DC died, FON created a temp forum, DC dies for good and FON brings forward the opening of this place, MODSHACK re-opens. So who is yanking who's chain? Personally I think it's a shame as the old place is my home BUT is like like an empty home, just a shelter these days. I have seen names posting here that I thought had looong left.

For now, both sites will have to remain on my bookmarks, it's a real shame it has come to this.
