As title really, just picked daughter up from cadets and on way home i pulled over so she could get some chips from kebab shop....when pulling over i twatted the curb (front near side) and now have a nice scratch on my wheel.

Luckily the outer part of the rim is just polished silver and looks worse than it really is as its got the curb "chalk" still on it, i think a nice clean, sand down and polish should sort that out but the spoke is black which is going to need some sort of paint etc??....any advise would be great tbh as this is new to me but don't want to pay the Earth and am happy to DIY it if i can.

Polished silver outer? Do you mean diamond cut? That's a specialist job to do right and they have to be put on lathe. The black part, you could just go to halfords and buy a black touch up kit and do it yourself. Problem with the outer part is that over time it will start to corrode and lift the lacquer from the rest of the outer bit. Next time you get tyres it's worth buying the ones with curb protection, they just have a ridge that protects the wheel to prevent this.

Way to burst my bubble. :D

I know nothing about this sort of thing, i just assumed the outer bit would be easy to sort as its not coated in black like the rest of the wheel, i thought a quick wash and rub with a bit of sandpaper would fix it. :(

From what your saying the black bit that is damaged will be the easy part and the outer the hard bit.....bummer for me then. The tyres on it are the run flat ones and tbh i don't think any sort of tyre would have helped stop the damage really as i can't explain how it happened but i hit the curb quite hard.

Aannoyed with myself tbh as i've taken care up to now to not damage anything on the car as its new (66 plate).......its like when you buy a new pair of trainers and no matter how hard you try to keep them clean they always get filthy.

I'll wash the "curb" off the rim tomorrow and see what it looks like in the day light.......then take it from there i suppose. :(:(

Looking online its going to cost me at least £100 to get it "fixed" professionally, cheaper than a new alloy mind.........I'll take it to Mercedes and see what they can do but was hoping to avoid an expensive bill.

I'd look around for good alloy wheel repairer if i were you. Normally it's around £100 to have the wheel diamond cut. At least it is around where i live. Problem is that very few wheel repairers have the kit to do them and they normally have to be taken off and sent away to be done. I think mercedes will get charged about the same and then double it, i'd try and avoid them ifit were me. Speak to an alloy wheel guy and see what they can do for you.

Been and had a gander in the day light and gave it a bit of a wash.....i think it looks 100 times better already and i think i could probably get away with a touch up pen for the black and a gentle sand on the rim for the time being.

I'll have a go with a touch up pen and DIY effort then if no good i've found the smart repairers in my area who can come to me and do it at my home for around £100 so i'll go that route if needs must, i sent them a picture and the guy says its not an issue and he knows its diamond cut so all good.......And yeah Mercedes want at least double that....robbing conts.

I don't blame you mate. If it were me i'd tidy them up the best i could and just leave it for now. If over time you damage another you could always just have the outer rim painted black or even silver, be worth doing if you had damage on 2 or 3 wheels. From the picture it doesn't look too bad, at least the tyres ok and not damaged.

Yeah i think it'll clean up better than i first thought, i've literally only cleaned it with a bit of water and removed most fo the curb residue.......its not really that visible at a glance, even less so if you don't know to look there sort of thing.

I'll use some very fine sandpaper with water to smooth the rough bit of the rim and then use a touch up pen or something similar for the black bit. Like you say the tyre is ok and further down the line when it comes to selling it or if i damage another rim then i'll go the refurb route.

Lesson here is to not take pictures in the dark with a flash as it looks baaaaaad then. lol

Thanks mate.
