ganjaman
The Coral.ie (Handicap) Hurdle (formerly the Ladbrokes, Pierse, MCR & Boylesports Hurdle) takes place at Leopardstown on Sunday 17th January and is one of the major handicap hurdles on the Irish national hunt calendar. Run over 2 miles for 4yos and upwards rated 0-150, unexposed hurdlers have fared best with the last 10 winners all having had fewer than 10 previous hurdles starts. Below we take a look at the trends for the past 10 runnings: Age (Win-Place-Runners) 5yo: 1-6-60 6yo: 4-13-68 7yo: 2-2-59 8yo: 3-5-52 9yo: 0-2-18 10yo+: 0-2-19 10 of 10 winners were aged 5 to 8, though they did make up 86.6% of total runners. The only 5yo that managed to win this in past 10 years was Final Approach, in 2011, who went on to win the County Hurdle off 16lb higher next time. Weight (Win-Place-Runners) Horses carrying 10-11 or more: 0-10-76 Horses carrying 10-10 or less: 10-20-200 The last 10 winners have all carried 10-10 or less and are especially favoured in softer ground. Top Weight: 02000083B23 (0-4-11) – last 3 top weights to make the frame were ridden by claimers. Horses carrying a penalty (0-1-15) have a particularly bad record, gaining just one place from 15 representatives, 10 of which were sent off 12/1 or below (3 were favourite or co-favourite).
