Diddy
Im on the hunt for a decent pillow. I sleep on my side a lot of the time and at the moment I just have a couple of BHS £10-£20 pillows and I still have stiff neck when I wake each morning. So with my birthday approaching Im on the hunt for a decent pillow. Reading reviews it's hard to decipher which is BS and what is genuine. Some people swear by memory foam and yet others say they hate it. Some love the buckwheat filled pillows but again others say they are rubbish. So im after forum users personal reviews especially if you are a side sleeper like me but everyone's experiences would be good.
ktv303
i prefer a kind of hard pillow to hold my head level when i sleep on my side. youl end up with a stiff neck if the pillow is too soft and your heads practically on the bed anyway. best thing id suggest is just going to a shop that has loads and trying them out in the shop. everyone is different when it comes to things like this so reviews are pointless. Scorpion
I've tried a number of makes of pillow over many years. The only one that suited me and my dodgy neck is the dunlopilliow range. Last for ages, don't lose their shape, I can't recommend these enough.
daz2905
I prefer memory foam my current pillow is one made by Tempur, cost me £160 for 2. That's a ridiculous price i know but i've had a lot of trouble in the past with lower back pain that turned out to be caused by my mattress and pillow. It caused me to miss maybe 4 or 5 days of work a year and i had no idea it was the mattress until i changed it for a pocket sprung memory foam one so now i just don't scrimp on getting a comfortable nights sleep. I use one pillow which at first seemed weird and the pillow is pretty firm and i kind of pull it into the top of my shoulder so it properly supports my neck and then it just forms into the right shape, rarely get back or neck pain anymore and have not missed a day off work with it since i got better mattress and pillows. My other half hates the Tempur pillow and just uses a £25 loose memory foam one from Amazon. So at least i have the other pillow spare, i only bought 2 because she'd moan if i got a good one and she didn't. My bet is that if you get a memory foam pillow you won't like it at first but stick with it because it will make a difference. Only use one though. The one my mrs had came from amazon, it had really good reviews and i think it was one of their own branded ones, cost me about £25 i think. Scorpion
When you consider that you can spend a third of your life lying on something, it's worth the investment. You wouldn't wear uncomfortable shoes would you? Invest in your health if finances allow.
goldringers
I do as much as possible, well as much as I like to do but £80 a pillow ?,
daz2905
I'm self employed and if i miss a day it costs me far more than just the price of a pillow. The back pain was so bad i couldn't even stand up straight and it kept recurring every 3 or 4 months and when i found out it was all caused by sleep i was just so relieved. I agree that £80 a pillow is a stupid price but like the OP the reviews for others were ranging from best ever to absolute crap but the reviews for this pillow were all good. TBH i wouldn't recommend buying one, the one my mrs got for £25 seems about right to me but even at £80 i've had this for 2 years and it's still good and not collapsed so price per night is not that bad. Same with the mattress, i had a expensive orthopaedic one which gave me a bad back but i honestly thought it was really comfortable and never thought for a second it was half crippling me. The one i bought to replace it was £500 off ebay which at the time seemed really expensive but turned out to be the best investment i made. My job (car body repairs) puts your joints under a lot of strain and as you get older it takes it's toll. Spending money to get a comfortable nights rest is just something i think you have to do if you do a physical job.
Diddy
To be honest I had already conceded that I was shelling out in the £100 range per pillow lol. I have been looking at the Tempur so the price didn't shock lol. We are also looking at getting a new mattress and the budget for that is about £1000 ish.....misses is in charge of that one, I think it is a pocket sprung job that she is getting as that rung a bell and it will replace the 12 year old one which cost a similar amount way back....So yes a lot of money but yes you do get some serious use out of it. So nobody has had a go at any of the alternatives like buckwheat filled or latex memory foam even seen bamboo mentioned on amazon lol....I/We are going to dreams and dunelm's at the weekend....Must admit not looking forward as Im sure i will feel like a bit of a tool lying on a bloody bed testing out a mattress ffs lol. Scorpion
Take into account that if you're a sweaty person, memory foam will probably make you even sweatier. You sink into that shit and it doesn't breathe. That's why I went with the dunlopillo.

Vixen
Get a woman/man to rest your head on, then you wont need a pillow simple logic really
tuff_enuff_toft
Everyone needs a Bosom for a pillow
Hippie
Its gotta be all feather for me but my sis swears by her shaped memory foam pillow. If you're going for memory foam, I'd buy a decent protector for it too. They lift you off the foam that little bit which helps with the sweat issue.
