JoeP
Hi everyone, I'm currently a full time student working part time on weekends, and was hoping someone could answer a question of mine. I do full time work on holidays, and weekends in term time. Working out about how much I'd earn this year puts me at just over £12,000, which is just over minimum wage according to this tax calculator. However I don't currently pay tax (as far as I know!) on my income. Was hoping someone could point out what I should do about this, or do I not need to do anything? I don't want to have the tax men after me Thank you in advance! J

hoponbaby
Students pay tax just the same as everyone else, just that most of the time they don't earn enough to go over the personal allowance (£11500 for the year to 5/4/18). Assuming you are working for one employer then they should calculate and stop it automatically, if you are working for multiple employers then you need to make sure they aren't all treating it as your main employment and giving you a full years allowance. I'd be with the one employer, yes. They know I'll be moving to full time over summer so I'll bring it up this weekend and hopefully they can sort something out for me. Cheers for the help!
