Fon
We have a cheap £20 charcoal bbq, and it does its job. Iv always wanted one of these big mother cookers, in the garden. Iv seen one for around £400. I know its a lot of money, but iv always fancied one. I know initially ill keep it clean and tidy up after every cook, but is this something that going to end up out there rotting away once the novelty has worn off. Whats your experience guys? 2tone
Unless you have some where to store it most I've seen end up in the dump. If you don't having anywhere to store it might be worth buying a cover for it but you always run the chance of forgetting to put it on and that's when the damaged gets done. HackmanSlim
Well I have not had experience with BBQ's of any sort, but I would like to share a little motto with you "If you have the money, then treat yourself" I hope that helps Slim
chizh
Decided on getting us (me) one a few years ago after seeing and fancying the idea of a brick bbq on med holidays. Now got a 3-burner gas grill and smaller charcoal jobbie too. 3 BBQs and little weather or inclination to use TBH. Doesn't stop me looking for more though. Pizza oven was looking good a while back but common sense set in. If you want one and you've got the money spare, go for it. If you're stalling then don't - well not until you're really sure. daz2905
I've got an outback one that runs on gas. Good value based on how long we've had it but a pain in the arse to keep clean. There's a lot to be said for a cheap charcoal one though, just a better taste to the food when it's cooked like that but on the other hand the gas one is less hassle to cook with. If only the weather was more reliable in this country, i'd happily spend a lot on a top of the range bbq if it wasn't for the fact it spends more time in my garage than the lawnmower. goldringers
They knocked a factory down near me so one Sunday morning I went round with a scutch hammer and loaded the car up with some reclaimers and built my own. Not the straightest but it's been up for about 3 years , does a job. My next plan is to lay some fire proofing to the flag and build a a small pizza oven dome here's a pic of the barbie (wouldn't let me before)

ktv303
Not the straightest Bit like yerself [emoji12] [emoji2] [emoji129] (How the hell did you manage that lol) I use half an oil drum with mesh on it, thinking of welding a pizza oven on it at some point. Mostly just burn wood but it works Fekkin great. It's been sitting in my works yard for ages and it gets used all the time.

daz2905
One more course of bricks and it would all over for that barbie and your shed would be looking like Grenfell tower.

daz2905
Right, just cleaned my bbq and the enamel coating is starting to show signs of rust. Soon be time to send the old girl off to the tip, probably get her to take the BBQ at the same time. What BBQ you looking at Fon? I'll be buying another although not yet. I'll wait until the end of the summer and try to get one half price or as close to that as possible. Anyone got any good recommendations? i figure i could stretch to £200 if it means i'm getting one that costs £400 at the start of the summer. Do they do self cleaning bbq's like they do cookers? I want something easy to maintain that doesn't take an hour to clean every time i use it.
goldringers
For me, there's not enough sun to make me wanna spend a bomb on barbeques. Just buy a cheap throw away job for about £25 , wait till Oct then leave it on the front for the scrappers. Next year ?, same thing again

goldringers
there you go, wire brush on the grill jobs reet. All these posh gas and stuff. I lived in Auss for a good few years and my Dad was a master of the barbie. Trick?, get it going about 90mins before you use it. Mix the coals up 50/50 slow fast burn coals. My Dad could cook some serious sh$t on the barbie The things you miss when you get old
ktv303
aye it gets a good scrub before its used (usually) and we just burn wood thats left over from the workshop. its gets well hot after a while and it works a treat. no need to hide it from the elements either lol
