Scorpion
As ive got older i developed (what the doc tells me) a touch of eczema on my shoulder blade area,it sometimes would also flare up occasionally on my head. Tried a selection of creams and potions but nothing seemed to improve matters much. I decided to try out something that i must have heard about at some point - you know , those morsels of info one files away for a rainy day... All my dirty laundry would get washed in a similar fashion - until recently. Now i launder my towels and flannels at 70 C and i no longer add softener. My other washing is done as one would normally do it , cooler temp + softener..... My manky flakey skin issue has ceased totally. Now the only problem i have is finding something else to sprinkle on my porridge...
goldringers
For any other sufferers look at this , it makes an awful lot of sense http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/45yhBTSM3x9H6lDZqmHNzCy/could-enzymes-called-endolysins-ease-eczema-symptoms-and-offer-an-alternative-to-antibiotics

Crashuk
Had to stop using biological washing liquid as it used to mess my skin, especially the armpit and groin areas. switching to non bio stopped that and the flaky skin.
Jester
As Crashuk says, number one thing is to get rid of the bio washing powder and all the softener crap. Betnovate is good for the initial treatment but it is a steroid cream and it WILL thin your skin out with prolonged use. 8 days max and leave it for 6 or 8 weeks if you need it. The absolute best thing you can use is a moisturising cream called Oilatum. 2, 3, 4, 5 times a day whatever you need. Put it on pretty thick and let it absorb for 5 mins. I got really bad dermatitis when i was abt 23/24 and ended up in hospital for 3 weeks. 90% of my body was covered in it. I walked out without a spot. Specialists etc all prescribing all sorts of steroids and potions till eventually they admitted me to the local skin ward. The nurses there binned the lot and started with emulsiderm emollient in the bath and 5/6 applications of moisturizer daily. I still cant use bio washing powder and quite a few products that contain perfumes but have been pretty clear for the last 30yrs. daz2905
I get bad psoriasis on the back of my hands. I find it's manageable with diprobase. I think it's caused for me by the paint and chemicals i use at work. It normally clears up pretty well for me when i have a couple of weeks of work and go on holiday so the chemicals are the most likely cause. My biggest problem is that wearing nitrile gloves for long periods makes my hands worse and because i paint cars i can't use creams or lotions while i'm at work. The psoriasis can get pretty bad and cause my hands to crack and bleed and then when i spill chemicals or clean my sprayguns it hurts like hell. Also the creams make my skin thinner and prone to cuts if i slip when using hand tools. I've lived with the problem for about 15 years now and would love to find a cure for it. My hands are so scarred that they look like they belong to an old man 30 years older than me.

Snuffs99
I have psoriasis and the only thing that ever really helped me was when i was in hospital on oxygen...skin went lovely and smooth etc and was clear within days....other than that though i've never had any luck with creams, oitments, oils etc etc etc, they tend to just make it red and angry. I have it on the backs of my hands, my elbows and head. The sun is hit and miss, sometimes it'll clear it up other times it just makes it dry and flaky. When i go on holiday the sea helps but tbh salt water helps with most issues.
techmob
Cannabis infused coconut oil apparently helps
daz2905
Well seeing as this ain't the most active forum in the world, i think it's safe to say that at least half of us are pretty flaky.

Funny you should say that, every time I have a general anesthetic, it seems to do the same. Doc said it's probably some anti-histamines but in tablet form they don't work. @OP I would suggest getting it looked at and get your GP to refer you to a dermatologist. If it gets really bad, it's bad

Oxygen was the only constant in each of the times its cleared up for me (nice smooth and un-angry skin within 1-2 days).... so who knows it could well be the same for you as they give you oxygen when under a general, i thought it must have sommat to do with the blood and what not being more oxygen enriched.
